Fred & Martha

Fred LeValle:  Fred was born in Morocco, Africa to a Moroccan mother and a French father. He was sent to America because his mother feared that he would be caught by slave traders and be made a slave. He arrived in America unable to speak English so when he spoke his name he was not understood. It was then that he was given “Williams” as his last name. When Fred’s father received word of the changing of his last name, he began the process of changing it back to LeValle. It took about a year to do so but our great, great grandfather was adamant about getting it done and it was!

Fred opened a sawmill in Georgia. He met and married Martha, who was of the Blackfoot Indian tribe. There were four children born of this union: Colonel, Henry, Julia, and Hattie.
